Whole Foods recalls raw macadamia nuts over Salmonella risk

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Whole Foods is voluntarily recalling packages of raw macadamia nuts due to possible Salmonella contamination. The product was labeled “Whole Food Market Raw Macadamia Nuts” and was packaged in a plastic tubs with a best by date of February 4, 2016. The UPC code is 7695862059-1.

The recalled product was sold in 12 states including New Mexico. At this time, no illnesses have been reported. Customers who purchased the product are advised to throw it away or bring it back to the store for a full refund.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people and those with a weak immune system. Symptoms include: fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
