AGUA SARCA, N.M. (AP) – A New Mexico family is once again grappling with a car fire death.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports police responded to an early-morning fire in the Santa Fe National Forest Sunday, about 50 miles west of Espanola, and found two bodies burned beyond recognition.

Eric Salazar’s mom said her son and his uncle Renzo Comanche went for a drive Saturday night. Police identified the two bodies inside Salazar’s 2000 Pontiac through autopsies.

It’s still unknown what caused the fire or how the two men died.

Donald Ferran was sentenced in 2012 to life in prison for the February 2011 murders of Salazar’s cousin, Sarah Salazar, and Joey Maestas. The two were found burned to death in Meastas’ 2000 Honda Accord.
