SANTA FE (KRQE) – Santa Fe police are trying to locate a man accused of sexually assaulting a 71-year-old woman.
The Santa Fe woman told police a man wouldn’t stop knocking on her door. When she finally answered, he grabbed the 71-year-old woman, pushed her back into her home and attacked.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in this neighborhood on Agua Fria, near Frenchy’s Field.
Police believe the man purposely picked that home.
“It was not an opportunistic crime. We believe she may have been targeted,” Capt. Marvin Paulk. “We’re not sure exactly why. That part is still under investigation.”
Police say the woman called a relative, who called police.
People who live in the quiet neighborhood are worried.
“That stuff usually doesn’t happen here in town,” Michael said. “It’s pretty disgusting that would happen here because Santa Fe is peaceful town.”
The victim was able to give police a pretty good description.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with scruffy facial hair, 5’6” to 5’7”, with dark slicked back hair, dark brown eyes and dark skin. He was wearing black baggy pants and a dark T-shirt with a red circular pattern on the front.
Police are not releasing the woman’s condition.
They are looking to see if this rapist may have struck before.
