ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Janene Mondragon knew since she was a little girl that she wanted to be a teacher.

Her passion for the profession has now won her the Golden Apple.

“I used to play teacher when I was little,” said Janene Mondragon.

That dream has now turned into a 25 year career. Mondragon teaches English at Questa Junior High.

“The interaction with my students, that’s something I look forward to each day.”

She says it’s much more than just teaching academics.

“It is my job and privilege to model for students what respect and self respect is. Those are learned traits.”

Her efforts are not going unnoticed.

“Mrs. Mondragon is an amazing teacher. But honestly I can’t pick just one reason. Teaching just comes so natural to her. It’s like she was born to do it. No matter what the subject is, she’s able to get the concept across because she puts her kids first,” says her student Antonio Trujillo.

She hopes her Golden Apple sets an example for her students.
