ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A woman is accused of trying to cover up the rape of a 6-year-old girl living in her home.
Bernalillo county deputies said the little girl told school officials, Wednesday, that her 15-year-old cousin rape her twice.
The girl said Nicole Mitchell, 40, told her she’d be kicked out of the house if she told anyone she was raped.
According to a criminal complaint, detectives heard Mitchell telling the 15-year-old teen to tell them the same made up story she told investigators.
“I told you I would protect you this time,” Mitchell said to the 15-year-old.
In court Saturday, the Judge kept her bond at $35,000. She is charged with child abuse, conspiracy and intimidation of a witness.
Mitchell’s boyfriend, Stephon McDaniel, was also arrested after he told BCSO that he knew the girl was raped and didn’t call police.
