ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Bernalillo County and the states Brain Injury Advisory Council were handing out free helmets, Saturday.

The event took place at around noon, at Los Altos Skate Park. Kids, ages 7-years-old to 10-years-old and accompanied by a parent, received a free helmet.

It was part of the Skateboard Helmet Rodeo to teach safety when skating. Instructors were also offering free skating classes to teach kids how to prevent head injuries.

Bernalillo County Commissioner, Maggie Heart Stebbins, said the classes are important to make sure the kids are using the helmet right.
