Two Albuquerque city workers honored for their bravery

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Two solid waste workers who tried to rush into a burning home were honored Friday.

On Monday, Victor Lovato and Lawrence Romero were on their route near The University of New Mexico and Central, when they noticed smoke coming from a home.

Without a second thought, they grabbed a fire extinguisher from their truck and jumped into action.

Mayor Barry named both of them Employees of the Week for their bravery.

“Lawrence and Victor rushed to the door and began banging on it to alert anyone who was inside. After no response, they attempted to open the front door, but they were unable to do so,” said Mayor Berry.

Lawrence was able to break down the door and luckily no one was inside.

Mayor Berry said their bravery and quick thinking could have easily saved a life. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
