Mayor announces Friday’s Heroes

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque city employees were honored as Friday’s Hero’s for stopping an unusual crime, the theft of an ambulance with a patient inside.

Last July, firefighters and Albuquerque ambulance paramedics were dealing with a medical call near Central and Wyoming, when a man jumped into the front seat of an ambulance and tried to drive away.

The first responders along with a city transit security member jumped into action stopping the suspect while the ambulance was moving backwards.

Each employee was given a commemorative coin. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
