Albuquerque zoo unveils new gator exhibit

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The public got an up-close and personal look at the new alligator exhibit at the ABQ Biopark Zoo.

On Friday, the city held a grand opening ceremony. The crowd was engaged and excited as they set eyes on the giant reptiles.

Those gators are seven to 11 feet long and weigh anywhere from 130 to 220 pounds.

The new exhibit was three years in the making.

They came to Albuquerque last week from a Colorado gator farm. These alligators are replacing nine smaller ones that the zoo donated to that gator farm in Colorado. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
