Jail guard caught after soliciting sex to a minor

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center jail guard is now behind bars after getting busted in an undercover sting. Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 26-year-old Robert Perea on Thursday after they say he tried to solicit a minor online for sex. Detectives were posing as a 13-year-old girl when they say Perea texted naked pictures and then agreed to meet the girl in person. Perea was arrested when he showed up at an arranged meeting location. Because perea agreed to meet a minor for sex, authorities are worried there’s a potential there maybe other victims.

‘The Great Egg Drop’ returns for Easter

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It’s an Easter egg hunt with a twist. People in hot-air balloons will be dropping eggs for “The Great Egg Drop” at Cibola High School this Saturday at 8 a.m. This year, they’re stuffing more than 25,000 eggs with candy to prepare for the great drop.

City bus stuffed with thousands of books

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – People spent the day stuffing a city bus with children’s books. It’s part of the city’s annual “Read to Me” book drive. The bus will drop-off its well-read passengers at elementary schools where the books will be passed out to children in need. ABQ Ride is also placing some of the books on its buses for children and adults to read and take home. Last year> they collected more than 44,000 books but they hope to do better this year.

Santa Fe Railyard’s theater set to open

SANTA FE (KRQE) – A long awaited movie theater at the Santa Fe Railyard now has an opening date. Violet Crown is set to open May 1. Crews are already getting ready for the grand opening. It will feature 11 screens and a cafe that offers beer and wine.

‘Gunslingers’ to film second season

SANTA FE (KRQE) – A television show is shooting a second season in New Mexico. The New Mexico Film Office says, ‘Gunslingers’ is filming in Santa Fe, Las Vegas and Chama. The production employed more than 55 New Mexico crew members and 200 local actors.’Gunslingers’ is a mini-series telling the stories of America’s most iconic Wild West heroes and outlaws.
