Albuquerque Public Schools board selects superintendent semi-finalists

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Public Schools school board has selected six superintendent semi-finalists from the 59 candidates for the superintendent’s job. Thursday the APS board started reviewing resumes. They plan to start interviews April 9th. The candidates selected next week will participate in community forums. The board plans to make a final selection April 11th.

The six finalists are:

  • Almudena Abeyta, deputy superintendent for teaching and learning for Santa Fe Public Schools.
  • Michael Cardona, chief school officer for Houston Independent Schools
  • Veronica Garcia, executive director of New Mexico Voices for Children and former New Mexico Public Education Department secretary
  • Angelica Ramsey, chief academic officer for Santa Clara County (California) Office of Education
  • Rolando Trevino, superintendent of schools for Lockhard Independent School District (Texas)Luis Valentino
  • Luis Valentino, associate superintendent/chief academic officer for San Francisco United School District.

The public forums are scheduled for Thursday April 9th at the John Milne Board Room at 6 p.m. Additional forums are set for Friday April 10. Two for staff and students are set for 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. One for business and government officials is set for 11:30 a.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
