Water restrictions go into effect this week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Residents of Bernalillo County will have to start abiding by seasonal water restrictions this week.

County officials say the Bernalillo County Water Conservation Ordinance will take effect Wednesday.

The restrictions prohibit residents from doing outside sprinkler watering between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., considered the hottest part of the day.

Officials are urging residents to make additional efforts to conserve water.

Suggestions include checking for leaks and sprinkler head overspray onto sidewalks.

The ordinance applies to residents who live outside the city limits in unincorporated areas of the county.

The seasonal restrictions are enforced until Oct. 31.
