Drive-thru church makes debut in New Mexico

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – When you think of a drive-thru, fast food usually comes to mind, but there weren’t any burgers served at one particular drive-thru in Rio Rancho on Sunday.

“We aren’t going to ask them if they want fries when they leave,” said Paragon Church Member, Rob Miller.

That’s because the drive-thru is actually a drive-through church. Members of the church offered prayers to anyone who rolled through.

Steve Dixon happened to be driving on Northern Boulevard in Rio Rancho when he saw the signs for the drive-through prayer.

“I feel like it was kind of a calling,” Dixon said. “It was kind of like I needed to be here.”

Like many people these days, Dixon said he often gets caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, so a drive-thru prayer service is just what he needed.

“It does feel a lot like somebody is listening and it feels like God is out there,” said Dixon.

Other drivers passing through asked the church members to look over their family. Others just wanted to see what it was all about.

“We know that there are many in our community that are just suffering and having a hard time and are hurting and we care about them,” said Miller.

Miller said the event is all about giving back.

“We are just really hoping if we can help one person feel a little bit better today and feel Gods love and feel Gods comfort then we will feel like it’s been a successful morning for us,” said Miller.

They have gotten positive feedback so far.

“It’s welcoming and there is no pressure so it’s kind of like you just come in and enjoy what is going on,” said Dixon.

The church got the idea from a church in Arizona. It’s hoping to offer the drive-thru prayer service once a month. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
