SANTA FE (KRQE) – A group of voters are urging Gov. Susana Martinez and commissioners to move faster in filling a vacant state Senate seat, calling it an emergency.

Sen. Phil Griego, who represented one of the biggest districts in the state, suddenly resigned Saturday after allegations he participated in a shady real estate deal.

State law says commissioners, who are tasked with choosing a replacement, have to give public notice three days before meeting, but this group argues naming a replacement is an emergency.

Without representation, they could lose out with every vote they miss in the legislative session. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
