New Mexico Senate passes bill reducing pot penalty

Council to vote on putting reduced pot penalties on ABQ ballot

SANTA FE (KRQE) – State senators narrowly signed off on a proposal to decriminalize marijuana possession.

The bill would make possession of up to eight ounces of pot punishable only by a fine from between $50 to $300.

Anything more than that could still earn someone jail time.

It passed 21-20 but faces long odds in the House and a likely veto from Gov. Martinez. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
