SANTA FE (KRQE) – According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, the newspaper’s editor was arrested early Thursday, suspected of driving drunk.

Ray Rivera, 49, was booked on charges of aggravated DWI, careless driving, lack of proof of insurance and registration, and driving without a driver’s license.

The New Mexican reports Rivera was sitting in his car on East Alameda Street at Canyon Road when confronted by an officer. He was allegedly calling someone because he was too drunk to drive. The left front tire on his vehicle was damaged, police said.

Rivera allegedly told police he had consumed alcohol at a nearby restaurant.

Rivera was released from jail Thursday afternoon on at $3,000 unsecured appearance bond, the newspaper reports. He appeared in court that day and pleaded not guilty.
