ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – One of the marines killed in a helicopter crash off the coast of Florida earlier this week has ties to New Mexico. Staff Sergeant Andrew Seif, 27, was among seven aboard the black hawk helicopter that went down in foggy conditions during a training mission. There were no survivors.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Seif’s father and stepmother live in Rio Rancho and he went to elementary school at Queen of heaven in Albuquerque. Seif was awarded the Silver Star medal after risking his life to save a fellow marine as they faced enemy fire in Afghanistan in 2012. He and his wife were based at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
