Woman shot in southwest Albuquerque, suspect in custody

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The man accused of shooting a woman Tuesday morning, has turned himself in.

Albuquerque police were dispatched to the 400 block of Gaslight SW after reports that a man was threatening his ex-girlfriend with a gun. Witnesses said the man was trying to force the woman into a residence. When police arrived on scene they found a woman with gunshot wounds.

She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

According to police, the suspect, 48-year-old Matthew Gonzales, called 911 from Legacy Church saying that he wanted to turn himself in. He was met by a pastor who started to talk to him.

“Through the help of the pastor of the church, we were dispatched there because the individual wanted to turn himself in. He was taken without incident,” said Officer Tanner Tixier.

The man is now in custody and is being interviewed by detectives.
