Police clear out new Tent City

ABQ Tent City

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A third Tent City in Albuquerque disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Someone set up tents on 2nd Street and Hazeldine Avenue and they started to fill with occupants. There were flyers on the tents that read: “dignity, community, safety” and “I am human.”

Neighbors were quick to report the new camp. Albuquerque police showed up and started handing out citations. They were also told if they didn’t leave within the hour they would be arrested.

KRQE News 13 spoke with a number of people there and they said the city abandoned them. They say some of the shelters that are usually open during the winter are starting to close.
