New party bike to launch in ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The first “party bike” is coming to New Mexico. Starting this month, you’ll see a large group on a unique bicycle pedaling away around town.

Groups can go from pub to pub or restaurants on the bike in a business concept that’s based on pedal power.

Mike Silva, co-owner of ABQ Trolley Co. said, “We’re excited to announce the Duke City Pedaler.”

“It’s going to be a 14-passenger party bike, so people hopping on, you’re going to have ten people peddling and four people sitting across the back,” he said.

“It’s going to be more of a you and your friends decide you want to do a Nob Hill run, so you’re going to pick three or four locations in Nob Hill that you want to hit up. Maybe you want to do the Old Town/downtown corridor,” Silva said.

“They propel the bike. We’ll have somebody who works for us who will actually be steering the bike, controlling the bike,” he said.

The Duke City Pedaler be rented by different groups, Silva said, including bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, corporate events and team building exercises.

“We’re also going to do some mixer type runs where we have general admission seats available,” he said.

Unlike other cities, the Duke City Pedaler won’t have alcohol on board because of New Mexico’s open container laws, but passengers will get from party point A to party point B.

“Breweries, pubs, restaurants, bars, kind of just having a party on wheels,” Silva said. “People are really excited: ‘Is this real? Is this really happening?’ It’s real. The bike is here,” he added.

Shelby Trujillo said she would be willing to give it a try. “I think it’ll be good for tourism,” Trujillo said.

The Duke City Pedaler will be rolling around Albuquerque starting Friday, March 13. Rental is $395 for two hours.
