BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernallilo County commissioners passed a tax increase Thursday that will add a quarter of a percent to the gross receipts tax, making it 7.25 percent.
That’s an extra quarter on every $100 spent. Those quarters will add up and bring in about $40 million a year.
Half of that money will be used for new mental health services and the rest will help pay the county’s bills. The county says its facing a $50 million budget shortfall.
