New Mexicans wake up to mysterious pink cloud

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexicans woke up to a light show Wednesday morning thinking they were seeing the northern lights, but officials said the pink cloud came from a NASA rocket launch.

The rocket launched at about 5:30 a.m. in southern New Mexico.

The pink cloud was visible for 20 minutes as sunlight hit the vapor from the rocket.

It’s carrying a research payload designed by scientists and engineers at Kirtland Air Force Base.
