A very active weather pattern continues to play out across New Mexico. Tonight a powerful cold front and a weather disturbance are combining to produce widespread snow over the northern mountains in northeast. We could see snow accumulations near the 1 foot range on the east slopes of the northern mountains. The northeast could well pick up 3 to 6 inches of new snow. Here in the metro area things remain relatively quiet through early Thursday. Then a weather disturbance will slide over central portions of the state and that will fuel widespread snow in central and northern New Mexico Thursday night and Friday. The Albuquerque metro area will get a chance to accumulate snow is well if we can keep the east winds down. That’s what we will continue to watch over the next 24 hours.
A wet flow and nearby weather disturbances will fuel snow over the weekend. These disturbances will focus over the northern mountains were we could see more heavy snowfall. Well into next week the chance for snow continues.
