Thousands of kids benefit from KRQE shoe drive

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – About 2,000 Title 1 students will soon sport new shoes.

KRQE News 13 sent crews to Mountain View Elementary School where more than 370 students got to try on new shoes purchased with the public’s donations during KRQE’s Albuquerque Cares campaign.

“To watch these kids put on a brand new pair of shoes, seeing excited they are – one boy was jumping around saying how he was going to play basketball in them,” said education assistant Ashley Griego. “They’re all just very excited and grateful. It’s really a blessing.”

KRQE News 13 will be at Emerson Elementary School on Friday to hand out more than 480 pairs of shoes.
