Race walker hopes to be an Olympian

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – He competed in his first race walk event at the age of 11. Nehemiah Cionelo is 14 now and has put his mark on the sport with hopes of one day becoming an Olympian.

Cionelo has put together an impressive resume of success. The four-time All-American Junior Olympic athlete is currently ranked number one in the nation in the 10K in his age group. He is second in the 3000.

“I am hoping to go to the Olympics”, said Cionelo. “So far, there is no U.S. athlete, no U.S. race walker in particular that has won the race walk or even placed. So I kind of want to higher the standard, go to the Olympics and get America out there.”
