Winter storm, snow hits northern New Mexico

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – The snow has been coming down in northern New Mexico for hours Monday evening. The highways are wet and icy and many roads in town are covered.

A lot of snow was sticking on I-25 in the area for a few hours Monday.

Snow blanketed cars and just about everything in the plaza.

Snow plows were seen working and cleared the roads pretty quickly. However, not everyone here was prepared for the winter storm.

“It’s snowing! I love it. It’s so pretty but I’m cold because I wear flip flops…everywhere,” Thea Johnson said.

“Usually it doesn’t come down as hard or stick as much. Usually it just kind of blows through but this looks like we’re going to get quite a bit tonight,” Joe Duley said.

While a lot of that has melted on the highway, some roads were slushy so drivers are urged to be careful.
