NM gets national rank for school breakfast program

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico has been ranked second in the country for making sure kids who need it are getting a free healthy breakfast.

The Food Research and Action Center shows 72 percent of eligible students are part of the school breakfast program. Still, rankings place New Mexico at the top when it comes to childhood hunger.

For many kids, the meals they get a school are the only meals they will get. The next step is getting more students qualified for the free lunch program.

West Virginia ranks number one for success in the school breakfast program.
