ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – With the recent measles outbreak that’s occurring nationwide, many New Mexicans may be wondering if they are at risk for contracting the disease. Even more, many may wonder what they should do to protect themselves and/or their children from contracting it. To help us better understand the situation and what we need to do, Dr. Duane Ross with Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico stopped by to answer some of the questions we all may be asking.
Dr. Ross reaffirms that the disease has not been reported anywhere in New Mexico as of yet. However, there is still a decent chance it could come into the state. For that reason, he urges all New Mexicans to get themselves and their children updated on their vaccinations. By doing this you’ll be protecting yourself, as well as those around you who have maybe not had the chance to get vaccinated yet (or those who can’t get vaccinated due to other health complications). For those who need more information on vaccinations, he says the New Mexico Department of Health’s website is a good resource.
