FPD: correction, 16th DWI was actually 7th

steering wheel, car,

FARMINGTON, NM (KRQE) – A Farmington man was arrested for a 16th DWI but Farmington Police say they made a mistake, miscounting his offenses.

Sargent David Karst says that Laurence Pine has been charged with only his seventh offense, not his 16th, when he was allegedly found driving drunk with two kids in his car at the end of last year.

Karst blames a clerical error for the additional offenses but that doesn’t mean Pine is off the hook. The prosecution’s case stands because a seventh offense is charged as a third-degree felony, the same as a 16th offense.
