TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – Media mogul Ted Turner has won his fight against Taos County, getting a big break on property taxes. Turner owns the 600,000 acre Vermejo Ranch on the New Mexico/Colorado border.

More than 30,000 acres of that sits in Taos County and was valued at $17.7 million by the assessors’ office. The taxes on that is $108,000 a year.

However, the value was challenged arguing that the ranch should be classified as agricultural land because it’s used for logging and raising bison, dropping the annual taxes to $17,000 a year.

According to the Taos News, a count protest board ultimately ruled in the ranch’s favor.
