Musical explores race, self-pride, love themes

Annual Black History Festival presents 'Respect Yourself'

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Rainbow Studio Theater is putting on a multi-generational cabaret style performance with an important message.

The fourth annual New Mexico Black History Festival presents “Respect Yourself.” This is a musical in two acts about race, self-pride, and love.

The cabaret, based on the Tunisian proverb, incorporates songs, spoken word and dance.

This play will give the prescription for life’s complexities and will navigate through the possibilities and pitfalls, opportunities and obstacles, and hopefully reach an answer.

The play runs Feb.12-15 at the African American Performing Arts Center with varied times.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, the only show time available is at 10 a.m. On Friday, there will be 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. showings, Saturday has 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. show times, and Sunday’s show is at 3 p.m.
