ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) — Friends and family of a woman who was shot one week ago gathered in the same spot where she was killed to remember her. On Saturday night, Alicia Quintana’s friends and family wore white, the color she was wearing the night she died in the TGI Fridays parking lot.
Police say the 45-year-old woman was shot by her boyfriend, Ernest Serna, after an argument. Her family says she was trying to break away from a violent relationship.
“Domestic violence is nothing good. It could happen to anybody because love is so powerful,” said Sam Martinez, the victim’s nephew. “No matter how much you love that person, it’s just not right and it could escalate.”
According to court documents, Serna had assaulted Quintana back in September. He has an upcoming court date for those charges.
Police say Serna fled after Saturday’s shooting.
On Monday, deputies arrested Serna during a traffic stop.
During Serna’s arraignment, the judge was told Quintana had a restraining order on Serna that expired in December.
Serna is being held on a $1 million, cash-only bond.
