Next coyote contest in the works despite debate

RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – Ruidoso will be the site of a coyote hunting contest this weekend. The hunt comes at the same time lawmakers consider a new bill that would ban the contests.

According to the Ruidoso News, a group called Antlers Obsession Outdoors is passing around information about the contest.

Right now, the Roundhouse is contemplating a bill that would make it a misdemeanor to hold one of these contests.

Preston Stone, a rancher and chairman of the Lincoln County Commission, says he’s worried the bill would set a detrimental precedent restricting or removing predator control services used heavily by ranchers. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
