Former lieutenant governor dies

RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – Former New Mexico Lt. Governor Mike Runnels has died.

His family says he died peacefully at his home in Ruidoso. Runnels was a Democrat who was elected lieutenant governor in 1982.

He served one four-year term along with Gov. Toney Anaya.

He was later elected district attorney for Valencia, Cibola and Sandoval counties.
