ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque School Board has reprimanded one of its members for making a district employee feel bullied and threatened.
Last month board member Kathy Korte wrote APS Communication’s Director Monica Armenta. Korte said Armenta had no business asking the district’s social media expert, Maralyn Beck, about her affiliation with Stands4KidsNM, a group supported by Korte that speaks out against a lot of governor-backed education reforms.
Emails show Korte told Beck to seek legal counsel against Armenta.
Armenta forwarded those emails to the board claiming that she felt intimidated.
Now the school board leadership has weighed in saying they agree Korte was threatening Armenta and and she isn’t following the school board’s code of ethics.
The letter says if Korte doesn’t change her behavior she could be disciplined by the board.
KRQE News 13 called both Korte and Armenta for comment but haven’t heard back. Korte is up for reelection next month.
