Regulation could be coming for ride sharing services

PRC to develop new rules for Lyft, Uber

SANTA FE (KRQE) – If a new bipartisan bill passes it’ll oversee Uber, Lyft, and other ride-sharing services here in New Mexico. Under the proposal, written by Representative Monica Youngblood and Senator Phil Griego, drivers must prove that they have auto-insurance and undergo a background check.

Youngblood says not only do these services reduce drinking and driving, they also create jobs. Cab companies sued last year saying they provided the same services but without regulation. The Public Regulation Commission didn’t come to a decision on how to regulate ride-sharing because they expected lawmakers take on the issue. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
