ALBUQUERQUE (AP) – Authorities say a homicide suspect who eluded authorities in southern New Mexico has been arrested.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Yvette Soto told The Associated Press that 36-year-old Steven Morales of Silver City was arrested Wednesday in Albuquerque. Further details on Morales’ arrest are not immediately available.
Morales was sought in the killing of 22-year-old Esteban Ortega of Silver City. Ortega’s body was found inside a vehicle near Pinos Altos north of Silver City on Jan. 14.
Morales was driving Tuesday on Interstate 25 when he drove off instead of pulling over for a secondary inspection at a Border Patrol checkpoint.
He got off I-25 in Hatch, abandoned the car and managed to elude law enforcement officers who flooded the area.
