New alert system could help find missing people faster

The New Mexico Roundhouse - 2015 Legislative Session

SANTA FE (KRQE) – A New Mexico senator has introduced a bill that will help find missing people more quickly. Jacob Candelaria, of Bernalillo, introduced the Brittany Alert bill Tuesday. The bill is named after Brittany Redford-Gonzales, the 25-year-old Edgewood woman who has a mental capacity of a 6th or 7th grader and went missing earlier this month.

She was found safe more than two weeks later with an ex-boyfriend in Clovis. Because she is legally an adult, there’s no special alert system for people in her situation. Senator Candelaria’s bill would be similar to the Silver Alert which puts out information about a missing elderly people, who may be in danger because of memory loss.
