Software blamed for state’s missing $100M

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The state is flipping through its checkbook wondering what happened to $100 million.

Department of Finance and Administration Secretary Tom Clifford says the difference is between the state’s general cash ledger and what’s actually in the bank, and right now, the $100 million is a best guess.

State Auditor Tim Keller says the difference could actually be hundreds of millions of dollars.

Officials are blaming accounting software the state brought several years ago for the discrepancy. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
