Rio Rancho High School cancels classes due to outage

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Rio Rancho High School students were dismissed for the day after a power transformer was hit off campus and the power went out.

Officials said power cannot be restored quickly and auxiliary power at the school won’t last all day.

Shortly after 9 a.m., buses were returning to the school to take students home, according to officials.

Other Rio Rancho schools information is as follows, according to officials:

  • Elementary schools except for Puesta del Sol and Colinas del Norte are on a two-hour delay.  School will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. (no early dismissal)
  • Rio Rancho Cyber Academy will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • All other schools (middle schools, Cleveland and Independence High Schools, Puesta del Sol and Colinas del Norte Elementary) are on a regular Wednesday schedule.Cleveland will dismiss at 1:40 p.m. and middle schools at 2:35 p.m., which is theregular Wednesday early dismissal schedule provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
