NM Prepares for El Dia de los Reyes

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Tuesday, many New Mexican families will celebrate the Day of the Three Wise Men or El Dia de los Reyes.

Bakers at Los Altos Ranch Market on Central were prepping Kings Cakes for the festivities.

The large oval-shaped cake symbolizes a crown and inside it is a small plastic baby Jesus.

The date marks the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas and celebrates the three wise men who traveled bearing gifts for the child.

The person who gets the piece of cake with the figurine inside gets to host a party Feb 2, marking the 40th day after Christmas.
