Man in Craigslist case convicted on 8 charges

PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who supposedly lured a Portales man to his death through a Craigslist ad has been found innocent of first-degree murder, but has been convicted on eight other charges.

Erik Pina was accused of shooting Jose Montoya, stealing his car, gutting it and setting it on fire.

He wasn’t convicted on any charges related to Montoya’s death, but was convicted of armed robbery and possession of a stolen firearm. Two other men were convicted in the murder.

Alonso Quinonez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 11 years in prison and Alberto Ramirez, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty as a juvenile and was sentenced to two years at a juvenile detention center. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
