Las Cruces mother, daughter accused of shoplifting

LAS CRUCES (AP) – Authorities say a Las Cruces mother and her adult daughter stole more than $1,000 in merchandise from a Walmart store with two younger daughters in tow.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that 39-year-old Jennifer Galvan and 21-year-old Stephanie Galvan were charged Friday with one count each of shoplifting more than $500 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Both women also each face two counts of conspiracy.

Police say they tried to leave the store Wednesday without paying for nearly 130 items.

They say when confronted, Stephanie Galvan showed a Walmart receipt that was dated Monday.

Authorities say they were accompanied by Jennifer Galvan’s 12-year-old and 7-year-old daughters. The girls appeared to be unaware of the shoplifting and are now in the custody of relatives. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
