ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man is behind bars accused of brutally beating the mother of his three children in front of them. Police said 29-year-old seen Montoya beat his ex-girlfriend, cut her hair, zip-tied her hands and feet and duct taped her to the bed. He did all of it while continuing to punch her.
According to the criminal complaint, Montoya then zip tied the bedroom door shut and told the kids if they helped their mom he would hurt them too.
When Montoya left the house, the kids brought their mom a knife and she broke free. That is when she sought help from neighbors.
Police said he did all this because she had answered his phone while he was passed out drunk and has threatened her before.
Montoya was in court Friday. A judge ordered him held on a $75,000 cash or surety bond.
