ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico High Schools rolled out the basketballs on Monday. It’s the first official day of practice. For Sandia High basketball coach Alvin Broussard, it’s a good day.
Broussard can stay focused on the game with a team that is ready to improve on last year’s semi-final run in the state tournament.
The off season was stressful with a bizarre incident in which drug paraphernalia mysteriously appeared in Coach Broussard’s office. Former athletic director Tom Knauber was charged with attempting to cause a criminal charge against an innocent person for the incident.
The case was later dismissed.
Broussard said he has moved on, with forgiveness in his heart. “Obviously it’s just hard when your world gets flipped upside down and your integrity and character gets questioned. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and I will definitely say I am a stronger, better man from what I’ve gone through right now.”
