Doctor shares Halloween safety tips

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Halloween is an exciting time of year, especially for kids. However, for parents, it’s not all costumes, candy and jack-o-lanterns. Parents have to be sure their kids are safe this Halloween.

Dr. Felipe Zanghellini shared some tips Monday on doing just that. What it mostly boils down to is being informed and paying attention to what kids are doing, wearing and eating. Parents should accompany children while they’re trick-or-treating until they are old enough to go with a group of friends. Be sure that their candies and treats are inspected; anything previously opened should be thrown away. And remember to ration the candy so kids don’t consume it all in one go. They’ll enjoy it longer, Zanghellini said, and it’s better for their health. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
