UNM Cancer Center’s breast cancer team

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The UNM Cancer Center is home to one of the nation’s most respected breast cancer teams, and the only comprehensive, multifaceted breast cancer team in New Mexico. The breast cancer team includes medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and plastic and reconstructive surgeons who work closely together to design the best treatment plan for each individual patient.  Even more, the UNM Cancer Center is the only one in the state to have two breast-fellowship trained surgeons– this means these surgeons know how to go above and beyond.

We spoke with one of those surgeons this morning, Dr. Stephanie Fine. She brought to light a number of ways the UNM Cancer Center Breast Cancer team is truly top of the line, and provides only the best care to their patients. She also shed light on some issues with breast cancer (i.e. a mastectomy actually does not lower your risk of breast cancer significantly, if at all in some cases).
