Bayard councilman arrested for battery

GRANT COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – On Wednesday, the New Mexico State Police Investigation Bureau arrested Bayard City Councilman Armando Arzola on aggravated assault and battery charges.

The arrest came after a criminal complaint with allegations that Arzola attacked a neighbor with an expandable baton or bat on Sept. 11, 2014.

The neighbor was injured on his left cheek and right hand during the incident.

Agents also executed a search warrant on Arzola’s house and collected evidence from the scene. Arzola was booked into the Grant County Detention Center on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
