One-armed golfer to compete in long-drive championship

Bobby Baca and the power of one

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Bobby Baca’s love of competition motivated him to find another sport of choice when his knees forced him out of his favorites of basketball and racquetball.

He found golf and long-drive competitions. What makes Baca special is that he does it all with one arm.

He has been that way since birth and always found a way to participate in anything that he found appealing.

Baca is 51 and has been on a golf course since the age of 40. He got serious after a Para long-drive competition in 2004. He eventually found himself holding a national championship trophy in 2008.

Thursday he will take another shot at winning when he competes in the Para Long Drive Championship in Mesquite, Nev.

Baca is an explosives engineer by trade. As he continues to add more pop to his game, he hopes to one day compete effectively in a regular able-body golf tournament.

He has already missed some cuts and made some on that end. He wants more than that. He wants to win. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
