ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Although the kickoff motorcycle ride for Toys for Tots is almost a month away, U.S. Marines Major Rudd Olmstead said it’s never too late to start thinking about giving.
Toys for Tots in an annual national program with the goal of collecting new, unwrapped toys to give to children in low-income families who may not get Christmas presents otherwise.
In New Mexico, the kickoff event will take place Nov. 2, and Olmstead hopes 1,000 people will participate. Last year, about 900 riders took part in the event that goes from the Duke City Harley-Davidson to the Firebird Harley-Davidson.
Sgt. Cyrus Spurlock riders can bring an upwrapped, new toy to the event, or donate $20 to participate.
Olmstead said the overall campaign takes thousands of people donating toys, money or time, and when it all comes together, he said “it’s phenomenal.”
“You can’t get a better feeling,” he said.
